What is it?
The SelectPlan for Women is a free, confidential plan that covers reproductive health services, birth control and family planning to women.

Do I qualify?
To qualify, women must be: income eligible; between the ages of 18-44; not pregnant or sterilized; Pennsylvania residents; US citizens (or people of satisfactory immigration status with identification); have no, or limited, health insurance. See the table below for income requirements.

Heath Care Resources: Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP)

What is it?
CHIP is a public health insurance program for children in Pennsylvania that covers all uninsured children, regardless of their parent's income level. There are no waiting lists and no exclusions for the program. Coverage includes: immunizations, routine check-ups, prescription drugs, dental care, maternity care, mental health benefits, up to 90 days of hospitalization per year, durable medical equipment, substance abuse treatment, partial hospitalization for mental health services, rehabilitation therapies, and home health care.

Do my children qualify?
To qualify, children must be under 19 years old, US citizens, residents of Pennsylvania, uninsured, and ineligible for Medical Assistance.

How do I apply?
To apply, you can use the online COMPASS system, or call 1-800-986-KIDS to talk with a counselor who can help you.

Heath Care Resources: PA Fair Care

What is it?
PA Fair Care is Pennsylvania’s health insurance program for uninsured people with pre-existing medical conditions.

Do I qualify?
To be eligible, the federal Affordable Care Act says you must be uninsured for six months and have a pre-existing condition. This means you would be eligible for PA Fair Care in September if you are not covered by health insurance for the six months between February 28 (when adultBasic ends) and September 1, 2011.

Insurance Resources Series: AdultBasic

1. AdultBasic

What is it?

• provides health insurance to uninsured Pennsylvanians between the ages of 19 and 65
• includes preventative care, physician services, diagnosis and treatment of illness or injury, in-patient hospitalization, out-patient hospital services, emergency accident and medical care
  

Do I qualify?

• You are between 19 and 65
• You do not have any other healthcare coverage (including Medicaid or Medicare)
• You have been without health insurance for 90 days prior to enrollment, except if you or your spouse lost health insurance coverage because you are no longer employed
• Your family income is below certain income limits here
• You are a resident of Pennsylvania for at least 90 days prior to enrollment
  
• You have U.S. citizenship or permanent legal alien status
• even if you have a history of health problems!

Child Care Resources Series: Head Start

2. Head Start

What is it?

• provides medical care, dental care, and healthy meals to children between the ages of 3 and 5*
• provides comprehensive supportive services to their families
• prepares young children for school both socially and academically

Do I qualify?

• Children of households already receiving TANF or SSI, or those in foster care, are eligible automatically
• Otherwise, families are deemed eligible based on income:

• Does your child have special needs? 10% of Head Start spots are reserved for children with special needs.

*Early Head Start provides these services for children between the ages of 0 and 2, as well as pregnant women. Early Head Start programs can be reached through regular Head Start locations.

Child Care Resources Series: Child Care Works

1. Child Care Works


What is it?

• provides assistance to families for child care
• pays most of your child care expenses at whatever qualified child care facility you choose
• covers children up to 13 years-old; if disabled, can be covered to 18.

Do I qualify?

• you must have a child or children in need of services
• you must work at least 20 hours per week or work 10 hours per week in addition to 10 hours per week in job training
